Lee, who previously oversaw corporate development for both Google Cloud and Google DeepMind, brings expertise in high-profile deals—including Google’s $32 billion acquisition of cloud security startup Wiz, announced in March 2025.
In his new role, Lee will focus on mergers, acquisitions (M&A), and strategic investments critical to OpenAI’s next growth phase. OpenAI’s valuation has skyrocketed since ChatGPT’s 2022 launch; it was last valued at $500 billion in an employee share sale. The company has been active in M&A this year, with notable acquisitions including AI model training firm Neptune, software firm Software Applications Incorporated (undisclosed sum), $1.1 billion purchase of Statsig, and over $6 billion acquisition of AI devices startup IO (co-founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive).
